Biocomputing Lab

Bridging biological sciences with computer algorithms for analysing genetic and protein structures.

The Biocomputing Lab is dedicated to computational biology education and research, focusing on gene structure, cDNA architecture and protein modeller complexities alongside macromolecular assembly and regulatory function analysis through informatics tools.

Software and tools

Lasergene (DNASTAR)

Comprehensive genomics and molecular biology analysis

Clustal X / W

Multiple sequence alignment for identifying conserved protein domains

MEGA 5.0

Phylogenetic tree construction and evolutionary analysis

GeneDoc 2.7

Conservation domain selection and publication preparation

FGENESH / FGENESHV

Gene detection in eukaryotic and prokaryotic sequences

Matinspector / TRANSFAC

Promoter sequence analysis

Students also receive training on composite databases including NCBI-PubMed, Protein Data Bank, EMBL-ENA and DDBJ.

Curriculum and experiments

The lab conducts standard experiments covering database utilisation, BLAST analysis, sequence alignment, phylogenetic analysis and protein structural modelling, plus advanced work with NGS data annotation.
